The Bronze and Iron Ages in detail

The Bronze Age (about 3300–1200 BC in the Near East, later in Britain) saw the use of bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, for tools, weapons and ornaments. Making bronze needed trade because tin and copper were often far apart, and it led to wealthy elites.

The Iron Age followed, with iron being harder and more plentiful, so tools and weapons became cheaper and farming improved. In Britain, Iron Age people lived in hillforts and roundhouses and belonged to tribes before the Romans came. The ages are named for the technology, but change came at different times in different places.
